"We
are in the disaster recovery business. If we cannot help ourselves
and quickly resume operations after a catastrophe, we will not be
in a position to help our clients when they need us most."
This
realization by Nixon & Lindstrom Insurance company President
Luke Nixon led to the development of the Nixon & Lindstrom Disaster
Recovery Plan. This comprehensive program took 18 months to complete.
Every level of management was involved in the process and are responsible
for specific duties in the event a disaster inhibits our ability
to conduct normal business operations.
Highlights
of the Plan Include:
- Contemplation
of a scenario which affects only the Nixon & Lindstrom Insurance
facility.
- Contemplation
of a scenario which affects not only our facility, but may include
part, or all, of the Springfield, Missouri Metro Area.
- Implementation
of an Internet-based Agency Management System which allows us
remote access to Accounting records, customer information and
all critical business records. This highly secure system allows
us to access information necessary to resume operations from any
location with internet capability, eliminating our dependence
on our Sunshine Street location.
- All
instructions for the disaster plan are outlined on a secure web
site. Back-up hard copy manuals are kept by key personnel off-site.
- In
the event a disaster affects power generation in the Springfield,
Missouri area, a backup propane powered generator has been installed
at a residence located 20 miles east of Springfield. This location
has been designated the "Emergency Operations Center"
and has satellite internet capability.
- All
Nixon & Lindstrom Insurance personnel are assigned to disaster
recovery teams. Each team has a designated leader and is responsible
for completing pre-determined tasks designed to expedite the return
to normal operations.
Our
experience in developing this plan has given our company a unique
perspective. Many Nixon & Lindstrom associates have attended
countless hours of educational seminars dealing with crisis management.
This has given us the knowledge and experience to help clients develop
their own disaster plans.
